When you decide you want to launch your own lifestyle photography business, you do some serious stalking of other photographers. You look at their website, their blog, their collections, their style, even their logo, all in the name of research. In my wanderings through Instagram, I stumbled across lifestyle photographer, Amy Rushbrook. I was instantly drawn to her style, her personality and her honesty. I quickly clicked through to her website, and was in awe of her portfolio. It was like a sigh of relief…realising there are photographers out there who don’t do ‘perfect’. I connected immediately to the warmth, intimacy and honesty of her work.
The obvious next step was to book a 1:1 Life: Unmade Mentoring session with Amy. We drank coffee, ate amazing food, and chatted about all things; style, clients, business plan, website, even business name. Everything. Amy truly was an open book, I asked anything that came to mind and she happily answered.
After lunch we headed down to Mount Martha for a family lifestyle session at a clients home. I was able to watch Amy do her thing, while managing to take a few snaps myself. I had so many ‘aha’ moments during this hour, it was incredible! The family was so beautiful, and I am still pinching myself that I got to be involved in such a wonderful session.
If you are fellow photographer reading this and considering investing into learning from Amy, then please know that it has been the best thing for me and my business! It has helped me far beyond taking better photos or what my business name should be. Although I walked away with my head feeling like mush, I had a clear and achievable plan moving forward. It was exactly what I needed.
