When Cheryl from Cedar & Salt Photography contacted me to book a session while I was in Byron Bay, I totally flipped out. I am a huge fan of her incredible work photographing honest and wild love. So I went into total negative self-talk mode, ‘You can’t do this’, ‘You’re not good enough’, ‘Why are you even going to Byron anyway,’ ‘Who do you think you are?’, but it was too late, flights were booked, deposit was paid and it was happening.

Things were pretty nuts leading up to my weekend in Byron, which distracted me from over thinking this family shoot that was fast approaching. The day came and the weather was, well, typical Melbourne weather; cold, windy, and wet. We met at the beautiful beach Cheryl chose, and stayed until we couldn’t hack it anymore. The wind was freezing and little Zali wasn’t having a bar of it. So we made the call to move to their tiny bungalow in the heart of Byron. It was perfect! We all relaxed, the girls cheered up and got snuggly on the couch. It was an absolute delight!

A note to families - summer is well and truly here, and I am thankful to be booking more beach sessions on the Mornington Peninsula again! I now only have one evening session left in January, the next date available is 30th of March, then April is mostly free. Please get in touch soon if this is something you’d love to do! If you need more inspo, take a look at this blog post from a session on the Peninsula in April this year, and this blog post at another of the many beautiful locations I love to use! If you’re ready to book, or have any questions at all, please get in touch with me here.

I’d love to be able to call myself a destination family photographer, but the reality is that being a mum of two, and a wife to a man who works long hours, destination photography in most forms is hard to do. I’ve been on three trips interstate now, plus weekends away for work, and as much as I love it, it’s just hard. Not only the logistics of organising the kids, house, babysitters etc, but also spending all that time away from my people.

But, travel is also what makes my heart beat the hardest. Discovering new epic locations fills my cup more than anything, and I know how important it is to follow my dreams and do what I love.

This adventure-loving family took me all the way to the Otways. It was a long road-trip, but worth every minute for this beautiful, secluded waterfall. To say my cup was filled is an understatement. I was in my happy place, in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. We found lizards, purple berries and dipped our toes under the cool, cascading water.

If you have a wild, crazy big idea for your family shoot, I’m your girl! I can’t do many destination shoots each year, so please get in touch early. I love capturing families in extraordinary locations. But what I love most is telling the story of their extraordinary love. And this family was no exception.

Sometimes words come easily to me…sometimes they don’t. This session is particularly difficult to put into words because it was just. So. Damn. Perfect.

The weather. The connections. The outfits. The light. The radiating warmth between this family. I could not fault it (not that I ever can), and I could not have asked for anything more.

If you are a mum, wondering if you really need family photos, scroll through and see how this session makes you FEEL. Don’t look at the beautiful sunset, or the perfectly chosen outfits. I want you to notice this mumma’s connection with her family. Look at the way she smells her sons hair, the way she giggles as she twirls her little girl around, the way she breathes in the moment she holds onto her first love like she can’t bear to let him go. Now picture your family here. This is what a session with me is all about. These moments. Fleeting. But everlasting through photographs.

I'm now taking bookings for summer beach sessions in January and February 2019. These sessions take place about an hour before sunset at the most magnificent beaches on the Mornington Peninsula and include you and your family enjoying a sun-soaked evening totally unplugged and, together.

These are a favourite of mine and were my most popular last year, this year there are a limited number of spots so if you’re umming and ahhing…do it now - eep! Selected weeknights are also available in January, if your family is enjoying time off, we can work this into your break too.

Please get in touch here to book.
